Rafael Nadal has continued his dominance by winning the Barcelona Open for the fifth consecutive time. To say he dominates this event is something of an understatement. You have to go back to 2003 for the last time he was beaten in the tournament. He was defeated by Alex Corretja although he was just sixteen years of age at the time.
People are now complaining about how tedious some clay court tennis events are becoming because of Nadal’s superiority. All sports have their outstanding players and tennis is no different. Rafa is not yet at the peak of his powers which is a sobering thought but has still set the standard for others to follow. It is up to the rest of the players to raise their game and mount a challenge against the world number one.
As Federer approaches the end of his career, the obvious challengers to Nadal will be Murray and Djokovic. The problem for them is Nadal is so good on clay court surfaces that competing with him and winning the match are two different things. The biggest threat to Nadal may come from another clay court specialist.

Federer finally got the better of him on clay the other day though! I wonder if things will be the same in the French Open!?
Top site by the way. Really enjoy reading it.
Would you be able to email me when you get the chance?
Thanks a lot,
Thomas
The winning streak was going to come to an end at some point. It is good for the sport that Federer has found some form. Djokovic came close in the semi-final as well. I expect normal service will be resumed at the French Open.
I'm still quite shocked that he crashed out of the french without putting up much of a fight. very unlike nadal
It makes you wonder if he has been struggling with a niggling injury. All good records have to come to an end eventually. I wonder if he will recover in time for Wimbledon.
